Welcome to W day on the AtoZChallenge. Today I have two tragic ghosts who were both murdered, but did not come back as vengeful demonic entities. One remained because of love, the other to annoy people.
Sam Wheat (Ghost)
So if you are my age then Ghost (1990) is THE romantic film.In the film Sam (Patrick Swayze), a banker, has just moved to a new apartment in New York with his other half, Molly (Demi Moore). At which point we get the famous potting scene that sent requests for pottery classes into the stratosphere.
On returning to work Sam find some unusual deposits in obscure bank accounts and begins to investigate.
That night Sam is mugged and shot. After which he soon realises he is a ghost. Since the mugger tries for their apartment Sam has to stick around to save Molly.
Molly cannot see him, but he stumbles upon Ada Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg), a supposedly fake medium who can actually hear him. He bullies her into helping him by singing "King Henry the 8th I am, I am" until she gives in.
Together they work to save Molly from the danger that killed Sam.
Myrtle Warren aka Moaning Myrtle (Harry Potter)
Shirley Henderson as Myrtle |
A Ravenclaw Muggle-born witch she attended Hogwarts in the 1940s and was a contemporary of Thomas Riddle. She was bullied by other pupils and was a loner.
She was killed by the Basilisk released from the Chamber of Secrets by Riddle. The entrance to the Chamber is in the first floor girl's bathroom where Myrtle was crying and she witnessed him opening it so he made the Basilisk look at her, killing her.
Riddle used her death to create his first Horcrux - the diary.
Myrtle haunted Olive Hornby, the girl who had made her cry in the bathroom, but was constrained to Hogwarts by the ministry so she couldn't keep doing it. Because of her moaning, her bathroom was rarely used by anyone at Hogwarts, except for illicit purposes.
Who would you haunt if you were murdered, your murderer, or the person who caused you to be in that situation in the first place?

I'm going for number one. I'd haunt the bugger who killed me until it drove that person wacko! I'm not usually one to hold a grudge, but in this case I would.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen Ghost. Mostly because when it came out I was little and had zero interest in love stories that weren't by Disney.
ReplyDeleteI rented Ghost just a month or two ago to watch it with my sixteen year old! If I could haunt, I would like to think I'd hang close to my family and be a helpful ghost.
ReplyDeleteI think I would haunt the police and try to drop clues somehow so they could catch my murderer.

I ditto Lee's answer. Haunt the hell out them. LOL As far as Ghost, I think so much today is way better! But I have a bad habit of listening to the hype and then find myself disappointed. I felt that way about ET too. I'm weird! :)
ReplyDeleteHaunt my murderer for sure, it would be nice to be able to check up on friends and family but I wouldn't want to scare them!

Unacquainted with Sam, but know Myrtle Warren quite closely.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't discriminate who, haunt everybody till they get the murderer and justice is done and vengeance is mine!

HOLLYWOOD NUTS!
You know you want to know if me or Hollywood... is Nuts?
Ghost - now, there is a real blast from the past!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely haunt my murderer and make them suffer :-)

You are so right Tasha, THE romantic film bar none. I always loved Patrick Swayze anyway. Whoopi was good in the movie too. Didn't see that HP film. Not sure why, saw a lot of them. If I was murdered I think I would haunt the murdere.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I wonder how many people who signed up for sexy pottery classes realized what pottery really entails... :D (I used to do pottery in high school)
ReplyDeleteI did love Moaning Myrtle. Especially because of the actress :)

I just loved Moaning Myrtle. I recently watched a BBC series called HAPPY VALLEY in which the actress who played Myrtle was a character--she was nearly as strange in that role!!!

I remember Ghost well. I was working in a movie theater at the time.
ReplyDeleteIf I was murdered, it might be better to haunt the investigators in order to lead them to the murderer.
Oh Ghost. It might hold the record for tears shed in a romantic movie. If I was a ghost, I would just keep an eye on my kids.

Oh gosh, Ghost! I must have seen that movie a million times. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteI never saw Ghost but it sounds interesting. I read the Harry Potter books but didn't see the movies. Poor Moaning Myrtle. I do remember her.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what I would do as a ghost. Probably hang around my family and drive them nuts with helpful advice from beyond. Or maybe try to figure out how to get out of ghostdom and get to whatever comes next that is more restful. Hopefully.

I loved Ghost! I think once I'd gotten over the fact that I was one I'd probably haunt the bejabbers out of my killer.

Ghost is a favourite movie and always make me teary-eyed. Never got into the Harry Potter series, but I feel sorry for Myrtle. I would haunt the murderer and scare him into confessing!
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with either ghost. I'm more intrigued by Myrtle than by Sam, but I've never been one for paranormal romance. :)
ReplyDeleteLoved Ghost and the characters, especially Sam and Ada Mae Brown. I'd be like Sam trying to learn how to be a ghost and then exacting righteous revenge...after the pottery class of course.
ReplyDeletei would definitely haunt my killer, but then i would totally haunt other people just for the fun of it.
ReplyDeletei remember watching the actress play in an epsiode of dr. who. she ended up in a paving stone.
You'd think with all their magic that Hogwarts would be able to do something to help poor Myrtle's ghost...
ReplyDeleteI loved Patrick Swayze in Ghost. Was a great story.

OMG, I LOVE Ghost!!! Such a great movie. Patrick Swayze was fantastic in that. So sad that we lost him so young. And Whoopi was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question, I would so haunt my murderer. To death!
You're not going to believe this but I've never read or seen any of the Harry Potters. I know, I hang my head in shame... :)

I love Myrtle. I don't think I'd haunt anyone. After all, I'm retired and haunting sounds like work.
ReplyDeleteI love these two ghosts. I adore the movie Ghost! For my letter G, I had to choose from so many wonderful movies but went with The Gift. I'm so glad you brought the movie Ghost to the attention of your readers.

Pen In Her Hand
That is an interesting question! My murderer would deserve it, but, depending on the circumstances, I might choose to haunt the person who put me in the position in the first place, as it might have been a more personal attack.

When I was a kid, Ghost was one of my favourit movies. And I still like it a lot :-)
