5 Reasons Why You Should Publish An Ebook Box Set by Tiffany Shand

5 Reasons Why You Should Publish An Ebook Box Set

by Tiffany Shand

Traditional publishers have been giving way print box sets of books for years, but have you ever thought of bundling your e-books together and publishing them as a box set? Who doesn’t love getting a series all in one go?

What are e-book box sets? E-book box sets are a file made up of three or more books or stories by one or more authors.

Why you should consider publishing a box set:

1. Great opportunity

Box sets are a great opportunity for authors to publish their books together in one set because to increase their sales by selling a completed series for a discounted price. They are also a great way of collaborating with other authors by promoting each other’s work. Plus you’re inviting new readers to read other books that you may have written.

2. Increased visibility

Publishing your books together in one place is a great way of getting more people to notice your books by publishing them in different categories or on different e-book platforms such as or iBooks, rather than just publishing on Amazon.

3. Value

Box sets are considered much more valuable than single titles because readers are getting more for their money by buying your books for a discounted price.

4. Easier to market

Box sets are much easier to market than single titles because you don’t have to put all of your efforts into each book, you can do all of your marketing and promoting on one product. It’s also easier to get into places such as Bookbub.

5. It’s another stream of income

As an indie author, it’s important to have multiple streams of income when it comes to your writing business. Bundling your books together as an e-book boxer is another valuable stream of income as box sets often sell better than single titles.

Guest: 4 Tips For Writing Short Serialised Fiction by Tiffany Shand

Please join me in welcoming the wonderful Tiffany Shand to my blog to talk about serialised fiction.

4 Tips For Writing Short Serialised Fiction

by Tiffany Shand

Serialised fiction is usually made up of a series of parts of a novel or book series. They aren’t just short stories and are different from novels, they’re more like episodes like you see on TV. Charles Dicken famously released his novels in magazines, newspapers or instalments. So instead of releasing and writing a novel all at once it can be a good idea to release parts of your book in instalments.

1. Hook your readers

You need to hook your readers within the first couple chapters of your serial. These chapters set the scene for the storyline, the series and the characters.

2. Have a good outline

Having a good outline is essential when you’re writing serialised fiction. As the stories tend to be fairly short you need a decent outline to know what you’re going to write in each chapter. Serials aren’t really for pantsers or people who write on the fly.

3. Don’t have too many characters

Having a lot of characters in novels works fine, but it’s best to not have too many characters in serials. Stick to just one or two main characters and a couple of secondary characters. Having a lot of character doesn’t work well in short fiction.

4. Write a lot of action

If you release your stories in episodes, then you need to keep you readers coming back for more.

Serials tend to happen very quickly and aren’t drawn out so keep things interesting. It’s a good idea to have lots of action - this can be anything from solving a mystery, fighting or romance.

Guest: Overcoming Second Novel Syndrome by Tiffany Shand #WriterlyWednesdays 27

Please join me today in welcoming Tiffany Shand to my blog for the second time, with her new novel Denai Bound and an insight into the joys of writing a second novel. We all know the feeling: we did it once, can we do it again?

Overcoming Second Novel Syndrome

by Tiffany Shand

When I first started working on my second novel, Denai Bound, I thought this should be easy. I know my characters now, I've already written the first novel and this should be a breeze. Boy, was I wrong!

Shouldn't second novels be easy now you have the experience of doing one?

In fact no, many writers often find that writing the second novel is a lot harder than writing the first one because there is the pressure to make the book as good as its predecessor. This is why the condition is called second novel syndrome.

Yes, writing a second book is a lot harder. You don’t have the indulgence and carefree time that you had with your dĂ©but novel.

Here are some tips of overcoming second novel syndrome:

  1. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. After your first book has come out you will probably feel the need of getting something else done quick and having another book out there. Don’t give into that pressure. Books are like babies, they come when they’re ready to.
  2. It’s okay to take your time. After the first book, you’ll probably want to dive in and get the words out as quickly as possible. But it’s okay to take your time. A rushed book isn't going to impress your readers and may cause more harm than good. But make sure the wait is justified and the second book is as good as it can possibly be.
  3. Don’t try to write same book twice. It can be tempting to make your second book the same as the first with a similar plot. But this will quickly become boring both for you and your reader. Each book has to be different and unique in its own way.
  4. Success doesn't mean you can write anything. If you had a successful first book it doesn't mean you can just write any old thing for the second one. If it’s a sequel then it’s still has to remain true to you characters and the elements you set up in your first book.

Author Interview: Tiffany Shand - Denai Touch Blog Tour

Today I am very happy to welcome Tiffany Shand, author of Denai Touch to my blog. She was kind enough to answer a few questions about herself and her writing.

Author Interview: Tiffany Shand

Q. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
  • I’m in my late 20s and I’m currently studying for a journalism degree. When I’m not writing, you will usually find me reading or listening to a book.
  • I recently finish studying for diplomas in proofreading and copywriting and I’m hoping to start my own freelance business later this year.
  • I have two cats and a hamster, they’re all mad!
Q.  Writing – why?
  • I've been writing stories for a long as I can remember. I always loved reading, so I think writing just came naturally.
  • Writing is great therapy as well; I think it’s a great way of clearing your mind and making yourself feel better.
Q. Do you have a favourite character from your book(s)? Why?
  • I love all of my characters, but I would have to say probably Cate. She’s a strong woman and feisty, but she also has a vulnerable side.
Q.  What's easier for you, action, or dialogue, or description?
  • Definitely dialogue. I like listening to what my characters have to say.
Q. What is the hardest part of a book to write, beginning, middle or end?
  • The beginning because I’m not always sure what my story will turn into. I can have one idea and then the story changes into something completely different.
Q. Do you have any advice for other writers?
  • Try to write every day, even if it’s only a few sentences. The longer you stay away from writing, the harder it becomes. Read a lot and see how other authors have crafted their characters and their worlds.
Q. What is your favourite genre and why?
  • Definitely paranormal romance and fantasy because they are the most interesting genres. I love anything paranormal!
Q. When do you have the most fun writing a book? When you first start? When you are blazing along with the main bulk of the plot? When you are rounding it all up?
  • When I’m blazing along with the main plot and I know what direction the story is going in.
Q. Are you a dog or a cat person, why?
  • Probably a bit of both as I’ve had both dogs and cats. I recently adopted two cats and the RSPCA and they love to play.
