"Lists are how I parse and manage the world." – Adam Savage

My AtoZ theme this year is my YouTube journey with my new fiction channel, and all that I have learned - plus some free fiction - scroll down to the embedded vid for that.

There are many, many things to remember when running a YouTube channel. I recommend making lists, lots of lists.

To-Do Lists

There are certain things that need doing in preparation for every video and it is almost impossible to remember them all every single time. As we do more, we get into habits, but to-do lists are still your friend. These lists tend to remain constant.

My to-do lists include:

  • All the images I need to create a video, e.g. Thumbnail
  • All the descriptive content I need to create a video e.g. vid subject line
  • All the steps to upload a video, so I don't forget to do something.

Individual Lists

Then there are the lists I make and update regularly that have useful information in them. A couple of examples are:

  • List of all my existing fiction content that is suitable for the channel.
  • List of all the significant days in a year, e.g. International Womens' Day, Christmas etc

Sometimes I used spreadsheets, especially with the individual lists. Where as with things like the descriptive content, I wrote the list once, then I made a template in Word, that has titles for all the sections I need to fill in for a vid so I can create a document for each one.

Anyone else find lists really useful? What do you use them for?

    1. It can, can't it! I often put statuses in my spreadsheets for tasks that have more than one state, like a story can be: planned, writing, written - so I can mark my progress and it isn't just blank.

  3. I love lists! It's just the best way to make sure everything you do in a project stays the same :-)

    1. If I didn't have my lists it would be chaos 😂 Same with the AtoZ and keeping up with where I have visited and where I haven't.

  4. Oooh I'm totally a list person. I wouldn't function without them, with all the projects I have going at the same time. Clever that you have a checklist for uploads!

    1. Lists or anarchy are my choices 😂. I find my checklists so useful - it means I know the best order to do things through trial and error and I don't forget stuff.

  5. I'm a list-maker. I get a degree of satisfaction in ticking, scratching through or deleting items. Having a template for repetitive tasks is not something I've got in place yet, probably because I've yet to do something like your YouTube project. I shall put it in the idea bank though for I'm sure to find it useful soon enough.

    1. I hope you find it as useful as I do if you end up using it. I have them for all sorts of things, including publishing my books. I like having a system 😂.

  6. I use lists, but they tend to be fairly chaotic. For example, my A to Zs are usually semi-improvised, but the last couple of times I've done it I've made a list of possible ideas for each letter before I commit to a theme. It is an idea to fall back on if I get stuck, and it proves that the theme is viable.

    1. It is always good to have options. Sounds like a very good way of avoiding getting blocked. This year I literally only decided to sign up at the theme reveal and had to write myself a list to prove I had enough topics before I dared commit to it.😂

  7. OMG! I am a list junky! It's so cathartic to cross things off my list when I've completed them. However, I've read numerous times that lists are also a great tool for positivity and good mental health.

    1. Lists are so useful aren't they. And to see that there are only a few tasks left really helps with the whole process of completing things.
I've just realised I do something like this in my writing too - I am a chaotic writer, leaping from scene to scene all over a story, but there gets a point (3/4 through ish) where I have to go through and detail all the scenes there are left to write, so I can strike them off in a push to finish whatever I am writing.😂
