aardvarkinmud What are your plans for the future?
Well my number 1 plan for the future is to become a best selling author. That's my goal and it's kind of hard.
The first step is to write a book everyone wants to read. I know I can write stuff lots of people want to read because I've written fanfic that thousands of people have enjoyed, but 'everyone' is more difficult and with original fiction you don't have an existing audience.
The second step is to find an agent.
I'd love to say that it's possible to become a best selling author as a self-pub, and it is, but boy is it hard. Some people have done it, but Amazon is the place to start and they have changed the goal posts so many times recently that it's nigh on impossible to climb to the heights of the likes of Amanda Hocking. I'm sure it can be done, but hell if I know how.
Also, Print On Demand is prohibitively expensive for paperback versions of a genre book.
Hence, I am looking for an agent to go the traditional route, however, that's not going to stop me being a self-pub for the moment and who knows what will happen in the future. If I do manage to hit the magic formula and suddenly sell millions of books as a self-pub then yay, but I'm not holding my breath.
The whole best selling thing is a long term goal, as for shorter term, what would be nice is to start selling enough books to contribute to our household again at a sensible rate. This I am working on all the time. This is what I am trying to do with Soph via Wittegen Press and we work hard trying to push our little company forward.
I am so lucky to have a stable home life and a husband who is utterly wonderful and is supporting me while I try to reach these goals. Without him it would be so much harder and I would just like to take this opportunity to thank him for everything.
