F is for Favourite - Blogging from A to Z April Challenge

Right so today I'm going to tell you about some of my favourite things, just because I can :). There is no rhyme or reason to what categories I have picked, I just went with what I felt like at the time, so be warned.

Actor(s)

Not going to lie, I couldn't decide on just one, because I have two favourite actors, mostly because I think both of them are incredibly nice guys, as well as being hot and great at what they do.

To the left we have Tom Hiddleston and to the right we have James McAvoy. Now I'm not going to say too much about them because they both have their own posts coming up later in the challenge. I just thought you might appreciate the pretty.

Animal

This one was hard because I am a bit of an animal lover, but when it came down to it I had to choose the cat. They can be loving and warm and playful, but they also know how to look after themselves when necessary. Their loyalty is hard to win, but once you have it, it's yours for good.

The kitty in the picture is my cat Levi who died last November. He was the sweetest cat you could ever imagine.
Fiction Genre

I'm totally a fantasy geek, and if I have to go further, paranormal fantasy is my favourite. Vampires and werewolves and magic all rolled up into one story is what I love. Horror comes a close second, but fantasy has to have my vote.

I started with fairytales as a child, moved into reading high fantasy as a teenager and have very much enjoyed the success of the YA fantasy genre (thank you JKR).

Horror Film

This is actually easier than I thought. My favourite horror film at the moment is The Woman in Black with Daniel Radcliff. Now I'm not including vampire movies in the choices because they don't really scare me, so I only vaguely group them in with horror.

Now The Woman in Black scared the bejesus out of me and does so every time I watch it. Which is how I rate horror. It is a beautifully shot film with all the right scares at all the right times without being bloody and gory. I love it. I wrote a longer review of it when I first saw it over here.

Sci-Fi Hero

Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the starship Enterprise. First of all he is played by Patrick Stewart and secondly he is a hero with a heart and a brain. Too often they have one, or the other, but not both :).

I became a Trekkie because of The Next Generation and so Picard will always be my captain. He lead with courage, intelligence and a certain sexiness that cannot be denied. He wasn't as daring-do as Riker, or as up on everything as Data, but he was one hell of a captain.

Doctor Who Villain

I had no hesitation about this one, the answer is the Daleks. I remember hiding behind a cushion when very small because of Davros and the Daleks.

They always lose and yet they keep coming back, you have to admire that a little. They are iconic and there isn't a sci-fi fan in the world who wouldn't recognise one. I am looking forward to seeing what the new Who continue to do with these incredible adversaries.
Okay so that is my random selection of favourite things, tell me some of yours :).

  1. I read this while watching Star Trek and it made me smile. Happy First Contact Day! (Earth first made contact with Vulcans on April 5, 2063)

  2. I'm with you all the way with everything except horror, which I don't watch. I can imagine Levi on my knee. Sigh. It's heartrending that animals have a shorter life-span than people. And Patrick Stewart as the captain is definately my favourite hero.

    1. I don't watch slasher film horror, but I do love a good spooky or monster flick :). I'm very glad I had a chance to spoil Levi, he was a wonderful companion and I still miss him. Patrick Stewart is a great actor and he played Picard so well.

  3. So sorry to hear about your kitty.

I saw 'The Woman in Black' in the theater. I grew up with horror movies, but I rarely watch them now. This one scared me for days afterward.

    1. Thank you, he was a very loyal friend, I still miss him.

The Woman in Black scares me every time I watch it no matter how many times I have seen it :).

  4. I love the favorites you've chosen, but I think I'd go with the 'Weeping Angels' as my favorite Dr. Who Villain. Great post!!

    1. The angels are brilliant, but the Daleks haunted my childhood so they have to win :). Thanks for commenting.

  5. Picard is the best and the sexiest bald man.

I saw the women in black play before the film came out and was so freaked out by it, I've not had the nerve to go see the film.

    1. Picard rocks! ;)

The film is just as spooky as the play, and of course they have the advantage of special effects. All I can say is don't watch it alone! :) It is, however, brilliant and Dan Radcliff is fantastic as Arthur.
