A is for Audience

"It's good that people see it. It's even better when they love it. And it's wonderful if they buy it." Bela Fidel

My AtoZ theme this year is my YouTube journey with my new fiction channel, and all that I have learned - plus some free fiction - scroll down to the embedded vid for that.

There are millions of people using YouTube and when we create our channel, we have to entice them to watch our videos. Unfortunately, there are also many, many, many creators on YouTube and we need to be heard through the noise.

One of the important ways of doing this is to choose our audience.

Depending on the kind of content we are making, this can be easy or hard, but doing our research can help. We need to look for the community within YouTube that contains the audience we wish to attract and learn from them.

It is no good trying to attract every user. Once upon a time, YouTube was a place of channels with random content filmed on a whim, it's not anymore. When coming up with our channel it is tantamount that we decide what it is about and who it is for, so we can target those people and that community.

If you had a YouTube channel, who would you want your audience to be? Or more randomly, if you could be in the live audience of any show/concert etc, what would you pick?

    1. Thank you so much, I am very pleased you enjoyed it.

Well I love sharing my shorter stories as well as my long ones and blog engagement has been dropping off steadily over the last few years, so I wanted another outlet. I really enjoyed doing the podcast as Virginia, but those stories are too saucy for YouTube, so I decided to leap in with both feet and have a go at starting a channel, especially with how YouTube is really pushing shorts at the moment.

  3. Tasha so exciting to see you doing this wow. That's one thing I love about A to Z is see what people are doing with their writing and beyond.
I'm on a limb this year using a story I wrote when I lived in Ukraine (2007). I updated the time zone to current events .

    1. Hi Leslie, thank you so much for dropping by. The A to Z is quite amazing for showing different approaches and content isn't it. I hope your story gets lots of response. I shall visit in just a moment (Friday was a bit hectic, so I am playing catch up ;))

    1. Thank you, it was actually inspired by some new friends I made locally, who popped in to chat about how to go about setting up a YouTube channel. I thought, well, I may be pretty new at it, but I am learning as I go, so why not share?
Thank you so much for subscribing - it really helps the channel grow - I so hope you enjoy your poking around.

  5. There is so much on YouTube that it can be very difficult to build and audience. My daughter has started a podcast and is finding out how tough it is to build an audience that sticks with the channel offerings. My 14 year old granddaughter has been putting up videos of music that she performs and seems to be growing at a steady but gradual pace.

Building an audience was why I started the A to Z Challenge. A to Z helped me build up a nice number of followers. The real challenge is keeping them coming back regularly.

    Have a great April!

    1. Thank you for visiting💖 I hope your daughter has much success with her podcast and your granddaughter with her music videos.
"Building an audience was why I started the A to Z Challenge." And we are so glad you did, thank you!.
Keeping them coming back, is indeed the challenge.
      Thank you again!

  6. Interesting topic!

I'm not sure what I would want to make videos about, so not having a topic makes it hard to target an audience! *laugh*

If I could be an audience member for a youtuber, I think I'd pick Ze Frank. :)

    1. Thank you 💖 I hope to pass on a few nuggets of wisdom I have picked up, and maybe grab a few from anyone who may have some insights too. I had to go and look up Ze Frank - always good to learn about new people.

  7. An interesting theme. I wish I had the time to tackle using YouTube or TikTok to reach out to new readers of my books. I'm too shy!

    1. I ummed and ahhed for quite a while, but built up my confidence with my Virginia Waytes podcast first. I think the important thing is to remember to have fun with it 😉

  8. Hi Tasha, I have to use Mummy's Blogger thing. It's still me, Biggles, though.
None of us really understand YouTube, but we have our guinea pig video channel there. Maybe you could give us some tips?

    1. It is, isn't it. I have to admit to having fallen for restoration channels, be it paintings or tools - I find them really relaxing. Then there are the cooking channels, the craft channels, the silly channels and, of course, the book and story channels. Too much fantastic content, not enough hours in the day.
Thank you so much for visiting.

  11. I always admire anyone who can do a proper YouTube channel. I’ve just done a few readings during Banned Books Week and some from my own fiction. I follow quite a few, though, my tastes ranging from comedy to history and catching up with films or shows I missed.

    1. The great thing about YouTube is it can be used for all sorts of different things, be it someone posting every day to try and carve out an audience from existing viewers, or someone posting occasionally for those friends and followers they already have.
I have to admit, I watch far too much YouTube.
Thank you so much for visiting.

  15. This is going to be very interesting since this is a world I have no real experience with. I have considered a YouTube add-on for my own blog, but nothing very seriously.

    1. Youtube works very well as an add-on, but if you're going for a channel to stand alone it is a lot of work, especially to begin with. All the big names have teams to help them, where as I'm doing everything myself 😆. Best of luck if you do decide to have a go.
