Vyres
To video games! Vyres is a character from Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, a strategy role-playing video game. He is an aristocratic demon with a French accent, and, apparently very few clothes on, given his picture :).
He called himself the Dark Adonis and was a contender for the throne in the game, until Laharl, a half-demon, heir to the throne and main protagonist in the game, wakes up from two years asleep to discover his father King Krichevskoy is dead. Laharl beats Vyres and christens him Mid Boss, which is what sticks.
Vyres is incredibly conceited and doesn't like to lose, often offering excuses if he is beaten. However, he is also fundamentally good at heart because he can hold an artefact which harms the bad and wicked.
As it turns out, Vyres is actually the reincarnation of King Krichevskoy, which probably explains the conceit.

Vinz Clortho
Ghostbusters again today for Vinz Clortho the Keymaster of Gozer. Vinz is a demi-god and minion of Gozer the Gozerian, the Destructor (see letter G). He has to get together and get it on with the Gatekeeper to open the portal to allow Gozer to appear.
Before the coming of Gozer, Vinz manifested in New York in the Shandor building as a huge demonic dog, which, according to the Ghostbusters Wiki is called a Terror Dog. He then invaded Louis Tully's party, chasing Tully out of the building and into Central Park, before attacking him and possessing him.
Vinz seemed strangely placid and not very bright after that, allowing himself to be arrested and put into the custody of the Ghostbusters.
He is also the mouth of exposition and has a great speech:
"Gozer the Traveller, he will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldronaii, the Traveller came as a large and moving Torb! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex Supplicants they chose a new form for him... that of a Giant Sloar! many Shubs and Zulls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."

Yes - I hope it lives up to the hype.
DeleteI love the bad guy with the promise of being good. Makes you feel like the good will stick, because it was earned. YAY, Ghostbusters clip!! I really hope the remake doesn't suck.

Oh so do I - it would be terrible if it was awful.
DeleteHi Tasha - I don't know Vyres ... while Vinz has an amazing face .. incredible shots of him .. I know nothing about Ghostbusters ... sad but true! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteGhostbusters is a fun movie - a laugh for anyone who enjoys a good comedy - promise :)
DeleteVinz was hilarious - I really enjoyed the character and the opportunities for all those great lines from the trio!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny - Tully was so very, very annoying, but Vinz was adorable in a demonic sort of way ;)
DeleteAhhhh, Ghostbusters. There's a movie I haven't watched in a really long time. Nostalgic!
ReplyDeleteI caught it on Channel 5 a couple of weeks ago - still so funny :)
DeleteGhost Busters. I was just watching them on TV yesterday.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great movie, isn't it :)
DeleteOne of my all time favorite movies ever! Love Ghostbusters.
ReplyDeleteIt is brilliant isn't it :)
DeleteI don't play video games any more so I don't know Vyres. I also haven't watched Ghostbusters in a decade so the other one doesn't ring any bells either. But great V post nonetheless. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI love that you highlighted Vince!! When Ghostbusters came out, my brother memorized that little speech about Gozer and would repeat it at random times (yes he has a weird sense of humour) but we would all know what he was quoting and start laughing. I really enjoyed this post.
ReplyDeleteLOL - I love it :) Vinz deserves his own post!
DeleteVinz! Ghostbusters us just the BEST.

Brilliant film. I'm not sure what to think about the re-make though.

Love all the references you've made to one of my favorite films - Ghostbusters!
ReplyDeletePrecious Monsters
I had no idea that "character" from Ghostbusters even had a name! But it's been years since I've seen it. I just remember the lock and key demons that possessed Rick Moranis and Signourney Weaver as a sly reason for them to have sex.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on trying to pronounce Vyres.
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt, Ghostbusters. I loved that bit in the movie. Very compelling.
ReplyDeleteAwesome V's today. That video game character looks so cool, even if he is conceited. I love anything with wings. And yay for more Ghostbusters demons.
ReplyDeleteYay Disgaea! Can't we have Ghostbusters and video games? I don't know how to choose.
ReplyDeleteI loved Vinz! Thanks for the fond Ghostbuster memories.

Rick Moranis was such a fun actor and he just vanished!
ReplyDeleteAh Ghostbusters. Rick Moranis was fun in that part. I still laugh.
ReplyDeleteRick Moranis was great in Ghost Busters...wouldn't it be great for him to make a comeback as Vinz in the new version! I am clueless about the video game character Vyres...obviously he wasn't in Ms PacMan!

Haven't heard of the first, but ghostbusters Woot! I have the theme song playing in my head right now.
ReplyDeleteHehe! This post has made me miss the 80s, where it seemed like every other movie featured Rick Moranis (I miss him).
ReplyDeleteAnd I hadn't heard of Disgaea, but now I know why. It's a Play Station game--I'm a PC gal. ;)
It's been a long time since I've seen Ghostbusters. My dearest, oldest friend is such a big fan she's named some of her cats after Ghostbusters characters.
ReplyDeleteVisiting you in these closing days of the #Challenge. Always happy to find another writer. If you have time or energy at this point in April, come and see what I’ve been up to. Love finding good blogs like yours. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteGhostbusters! Rick Moranis was great in this. I loved a good RPG back in the day, but don't know this one.
ReplyDeleteJ here, stopping by from the #atozchallenge. Thank you for visiting by my blog recently.
ReplyDeleteLOL. The Ghostbusters is classic, I have to go with that!
