Book of the Week

Assassin's Blood

Assassin's Blood
Meet Kira Roltof, or rather Jasmin Welby at the moment because she’s undercover. Kira’s an assassin with a sense of humour that’s almost as dangerous as she is. When hunting down her targets it helps that she’s a vampire/werewolf hybrid and has been at the killing game for over seventy years. Practice makes perfect and all that jazz.

Of course her combined species status could just as easily get her killed as help her out. If either the vampires or the werewolves figure out she’s both, she’ll never be safe again.

Her latest target is a Mafia big shot. Nothing she can’t handle easily, except she runs into a little snag of the vampire persuasion at the end of the job.

Assassin’s Blood is a short story full of paranormal intrigue and action with a little bit of romance to round it off.

Mina's Children Word Search - with a blurred words search in the background

Mina's Children
Word Search

Greetings lovely people and puzzle fans. I must apologise for last week's lack of puzzle, but things were a little busy over this way.

This week the puzzle is based on my latest novella, Mina's Children: The Legacy of Dracula, an exciting paranormal adventure with vampires, werewolves and even secret agents. The book is entered into the Kindle Storyteller competition, hence it being exclusive to Amazon atm, and even clicks on the link above would really help me out. Many thanks.😘

So what fun things is everyone up to at the moment? I am learning Italian with Duolingo which is fun. I can say "I write books" and "I drink wine", so I think I'm sorted 😂.

Have fun with the puzzle and see you again next week 💖.

NEW Book - Mina's Children: The Legacy of Dracula #Paranormal #Vampires

The Legacy of Dracula

Silhouette of a woman in front of a Romanian castle and a mountain, with the moon and red eyes in the sky. Mina's Children: The Legacy of Dracula
Kindle Unlimited, eBook & Paperback

I have a new book out! I know, you're shocked, nothing about this post gave that away before this point did it 😉🤣. Admittedly there has been no build up to this, but that's because I have to admit that I moved the schedule up on this one pretty sharpish.

Regina Harker, immortal, vampire tainted, descendant of the famous Mina, has spent her whole life preparing for one mission: destroy Dracula.

Mina Harker (nee Murry) was changed by Dracula's attentions and so were her descendants. Reggie comes from this line of vampire hunters, nature's definitive balance to the darkness. Her whole life has been building up to this one mission in Romania, to face the evil that started everything for her family.  Unfortunately there are others with their eyes on Dracula too, and Reggie has run right into them. She must make them allies or remove them from the game before she can face the ultimate foe.

Mina's Children is entered into Amazon UK's Kindle Storyteller literary prize, which I didn't know about until an email came through this month, and the entry period is 1st May - 31 Aug. All entries have to be new books, so I went full speed on editing Mina's Children, which I have been meaning to do for a little while.

Now some of you may recognise the title as one I published on Wattpad in 2018 as part of their Open Novella Contest, where it came in the top 5, and it is based on the same novella. However, this is a new version which has been edited to be the beginning of my series Dracula's Heritage, as well as having three completely new chapters at the end.

Dracula's Heritage

Dracula, the greatest vampire to have ever lived, is like no other undead before or since. Always returning from death no matter his adversaries, it will take a coming together of remarkable individuals, each one themselves the result of a ripple left by Dracula in the world, to bring an end to his latest dreadful plot.

Mina's Children is a contemporary paranormal action adventure, inspired by Bram Stoker's classic Dracula. I have always loved Dracula, being a vampire fan, how could I not, and some of the film adaptations of the story are easily in my top 10 vampire films of all time. I will admit this series takes as many liberties with the source material as most adaptations, but I hope it will appeal to fans of the Count.

My apologies to those who prefer to use sources other than Amazon, but to be in the running for the Kindle Storyteller prize, the title has to be in KDP select and exclusive to the platform. However, this does mean I can offer it to read for free via Kindle Unlimited.

Kindle Unlimited Amazon

It is also available to purchase for the introductory price of $0.99, £0.77 for the eBook & $6.99, £4.95 for the paperback.

Amazon Kindle  Amazon Paperback

It would be wonderful if you were to pick up a copy, or if you could even just visit the book on Amazon - because both will help Mina's Children's rankings and how much it will be seen. This in turn will help it in the competition. Thank you so much for your support.💖

Of course, as always, while vampires survive on blood, reviews are the lifeblood for authors. If you enjoy the book, I would be eternally grateful if you would leave a review at Amazon.

💜Thank you so much for dropping by.💜

Q. Do you have a book in Amazon's Kindle Storyteller prize? Let us know about it in the comments so we can check it out.

The Horror of Shakespeare #24 - What light through yonder window breaks

Every day in October I will be posting a horror/paranormal drabble (100 word story) inspired by a Shakespeare Quote.
Good morrow my dear friends, with a quote like this one, of course I went with vampires :)

What light through yonder window breaks

"While the chase has been delightful, my dear, I tire of it. Surrender, you will enjoy it."

Paul backed off, but thudded into the wall. When Hector had come for him, he had run, but now there was nowhere to go. It was ironic that a vampire claimed to love the son of a vampire hunter.

Paul was sure Hector had no idea what love really was.

He closed his eyes as the monster stepped in closer. He expected a bite, what he got was a scream as daylight crept over the windowsill.

Maybe his plan had worked after all.

Every day in October I will be posting a horror/paranormal drabble (100 word story) inspired by a Shakespeare Quote.
Good evening, running late again today, sorry. Today we have vampires again :D

The better part of valour is discretion

The crossbow pointed at her heart made Henrietta think her night was not going to go well.

"Prepare to die, spawn of Satan," the vampire hunter said.

She just about manage not to roll her eyes. These fanatics were all the same.

"I have never had anything to do with Satan in my life," she said, "and that's a very long time."

Just as she was about to move there was a 'schtck' sound and the hunter fell over, looking comically startled. She couldn't really miss the small dart sticking out of his neck.

"You're welcome," said a disembodied voice

The Horror of Shakespeare #15 - Cry “havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war.

A fountain pen with italic writing in the background. Over the top are the words The Horror of Shakespeare and the quote 'Cry 'Havoc!''

Every day in October I will be posting a horror/paranormal drabble (100 word story) inspired by a Shakespeare Quote.
Hello on this rainy Monday, I hope everyone is well. Today I mixed it up a bit, with vamps and werewolves :)

Cry "Havoc!" and let slip the Dogs of War

It wasn't that Justin had anything against werewolves personally, it was just they made such a mess. Yes, pointing them at a target and telling them they could indulge their basest instincts made a definite point.

But there was no way the blood was ever coming out of his lovely cream carpet.

He looked away as his minions did their work.

Sometimes acting as the law in the supernatural community was so tiresome. Being the eldest vampire in the city, however, it was a responsibility he could not shirk.

He was going to have to redecorate the whole office now.

The Horror of Shakespeare #14 - To Thine Own Self Be True

A fountain pen with italic writing in the background. Over the top are the words The Horror of Shakespeare and the quote 'To Thine Own Self Be True'

Every day in October I will be posting a horror/paranormal drabble (100 word story) inspired by a Shakespeare Quote.
Good evening again - today has been so busy, but I got to my drabble eventually :D. The moral of this story, is don't treat your staff with disrespect.

To Thine Own Self Be True

Marion took a deep breath.

"Please don't shout at me," she said, in as pleasant a tone as she could manage.

"Why? You worthless idiot. One thing, I asked you to do one thing and you screwed it up."

"Sir," she tried again, "that was not what…"

"Are you trying to say I'm lying?"

"Mistaken…"

"You're fired!"

"Fired?"

"Yes, get out."

Marion felt a weight lift off her shoulders.

"Gladly," she said as the chains of loyalty in her head snapped.

The beast within her rose, no longer fettered. Fur erupted from her body, long fangs descended, and she attacked.

The Horror of Shakespeare #6 - I am One Who Loved Not Wisely

Every day in October I will be posting a horror/paranormal drabble (100 word story) inspired by a Shakespeare Quote.
🎃Happy Saturday one and all! Hope you are having a good weekend. Today I have a ghostly horror for you.

I am One Who Loved Not Wisely

Natalie screamed. The room exploded, slamming everything against the walls. Lynn, Rick's new wife, fainted as he reared back from her, turning.

"Now you see me," Natalie yelled at Rick, enjoying his terror. "Not so gone, Darling. I won't let you do it again."

"Yo…you can't be here, you're…"

"Dead, I know," she said, as the power swirled through her soul. "And tonight, so are you."

She curled her righteous anger around his hand and the knife he'd been about to use. To the cops it would look like he'd stabbed himself in the heart in a fit of remorse.
